NEW Feature! Animal Companion NPC

Recently during a staff run game, A rather interesting situation arose where a beast that the party encountered was befriended by one of the party members. Since the player who was lucky enough to gain this new, once enemy now Animal Companion, is a seasoned player, the NPC the GM created for the confrontation was given to this player to use in future combat situations. Since we built in a way for this to work in the site, we decided to unlock and share it with the community at large ... Should any of your games have a similar situation.

So, how do you create and assign an Animal Companion NPC to a PC?

  • In the World Builder Catalog; when you create or edit an NPC, you will now see a checkbox for "Animal Companion NPC".
  • Once saved; in the "Non-Player Character Biography" view, you will see a new section for "Linked Characters" which will show what characters this AC is connected to, and an "Assign to PC" button. This button allows you to assign the AC to a Player Character in any campaign you run.
  • From the Player's perspective; Once an AC is linked. On the Character Sheet in the Animal Companion section you will see the name of the AC NPC with an icon.
  • When clicking the AC's name or that new little icon, the AC NPC will open in a smaller new window for the player to interact with.
  • This AC NPC can participate in combat the same way as any other Player or NPC would.
  • If at any time the Player no longer wishes to have the AC, simply removing the Animal Companion's Name on the Character Editor page and saving, will unlink the AC NPC.

We hope you may find this feature just as useful in your own games.
